DURBAN – The deployment of multiple interventions by the Provincial Commissioner to the Taylors Halt area, has led to the arrest of nine suspects for various acts of criminality. During operations conducted in the area, police officers deployed to enhance visible policing; have also seized eight firearms, 107 rounds of ammunition, three vehicles as well as drugs and other items.
Yesterday at 01:30, police officers from the Provincial Task Team conducted an intelligence-led operation at Mafunze Reserve where they arrested two men and seized three firearms. Police seized a 303 rifle, 2 pistols and 76 rounds of ammunition. Two brothers aged 33 and 38 were arrested and were charged for being in illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Both men appeared at the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court yesterday and were remanded into custody until 25 September 2020 for further investigation. All three firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine if they were used in the commission of any crime in the area.
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula applauded the team for the arrests. “I am pleased with the results of the Visible Policing interventions as they have stemmed criminality in the area. Our Provincial Investigation Unit is hard at work and we are confident that we will soon see breakthroughs into recent murders in the area,” he said.
