KWAZULU-NATAL – “Operations targeting illegal firearms are still continuing in the province. We are seeing positive results due to our deployments to curb criminal activities. I am pleased with the recent recoveries of illegal firearms and the arrests of suspects for possessing such firearms,” said the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula.
His gratitude follows the arrest of six suspects at Osizweni following a multi-disciplinary operation by various units in the SAPS. The operation was carried out last night in the Osizweni policing precinct where six suspects aged between 23 and 27 were arrested for illegal possession of firearms as well as possession of a suspected stolen vehicle. Among the arrested suspects, two were found in possession of two pistols. The suspects were arrested while at a house in Blaubosch.
The team was following up information about a vehicle that was hijacked in Ladysmith on 11 September 2020. It is alleged that the complainant was stationary at a set of robots when he was robbed at gunpoint of his vehicle and other belongings. A case of carjacking was opened at Ladysmith SAPS. The suspects are expected to appear before the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court today.
