WESTERN CAPE – To ensure the safety of the community, members of the Overberg Cluster conducted an intelligence-driven operation in Gansbaai late last night and raided a residence in search of a firearm. The firearm was not found, but the 30-year-old occupant of the residence in Leeubekkie Street, Blompark was arrested for the possession of 69 mandrax tablets.
The operation led the members to the second address in Kapokblom Street at around 00:10 where the firearm they were looking for, a pistol without a serial number and nine rounds of ammunition were found. The 27-year-old suspect was arrested for the possession of a prohibited firearm and he is due to make a court appearance in Hermanus together with the one arrested for the mandrax, once they have been charged.
Meanwhile, the Cape Town Flying Squad reacted on information yesterday afternoon and arrested a 39-year-old suspect for being in possession of 11 boxes of illicit cigarettes valued at R41 200-00 at an address in Athlone. He is expected to make his court appearance in Athlone tomorrow.
