A 50-year-old woman was attacked by her gardener and a second man after they were refused employment.
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Tongaat Operations Center received a call of a robbery in progress on Sastri Circle in Belverdere, Tongaat at approximately 09:33 after the men were seen forcing the victim into the residence. All available Reaction Officers were dispatched to the scene and on arrival found that the suspects had fled.
The victim claimed that her gardener is employed on a temporary basis. This morning he arrived at her home with a second person requesting work for the day. When they were informed that there was no employment one of the suspects drew a knife, forced the victim into her home before gagging her with a towel. They then robbed her of her ATM cards and forced her to provide the pin codes.
A neighbor who heard the commotion went to the victim’s aid. The suspect who was armed with the knife threatened to stab him. Both robbers then fled the scene on foot. The victim was visibly shaken by the experience but was not injured.
Reaction Officers conducted an extensive search for the robbers however they still remain at large.
