A man in his 20s was killed this morning in an armed robbery on Beyers Naude Road in Randpark Ridge.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene at 06h49 to find the man lying on the roadside embankment. Local security members were already in attendance.
Medics assessed the man and found that he had sustained a gunshot wound to his chest. Nothing could be done for him, and he was declared dead.
It is understood that the deceased attempted to rob a cyclist when the security officer intervened.
Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
