WESTERN CAPE – The vigilance and swift response from members attached to Public Order Policing landed two suspects aged 20 and 26 behind bars for possession of the hijacked vehicle, possession of imitation firearm and possession of the suspected stolen property.
Last night the members received information of a vehicle hijacked in Mfuleni area. Information received that vehicle was in Y-Block, Khayelitsha. Members operationalized the information and took up patrols in the area. They spotted the vehicle, a white Toyota Conquest (Hijacked on Mfuleni case) in Aliam Drive, Khayelitsha.
When seeing the marked police vehicle, the suspects quickly turned Into Bayana Street, Y-Block, Khayelitsha. Members stopped the vehicle and arrested the two suspects. One of the suspects was found in possession of an imitation firearm, as well as the cellphone and wallet of the complainant.
Upon further investigation, it was established that the suspects first hijacked a white Toyota Avanza in Khayelitsha and kidnapped the owner. Putting him in the back of the vehicle they then drove to Mfuleni and hijacked the white Toyota Conquest.
The hijacked vehicle was confiscated as well as stolen property that was taken during the hijacking.
The suspects are due to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court once charged.
