Man in court for possession of illegal firearms

DURBAN – Last night, 03 November 2020 at 21:49, a complaint of a domestic dispute was received at Plessislaer SAPS.

The police officers proceeded to Nxamalala area in Sweetwaters, Pietermaritzburg, and on arrival they were informed that a 17-year-old girl was assaulted by her step-father who also threatened to shoot her. A search was then conducted inside the house by the police and they found a 9mm pistol on top of the bed covered with a blanket. The police also found a second firearm, which was an airgun with a wooden handle.

Charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and assault were opened for investigation. A 42-year-old suspect was placed under arrest. He is appearing before the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court today.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner Khombinkosi Jula commended the police officers for their swift response.
