Welder injured in an explosion in Phoenix

A man was seriously injured after a metal drum he was attempting to cut exploded on Phoenix Highway.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) arrived on the scene and found the man lying on the pavement. He was bleeding excessively from an injury to his head.

It was established that the victim operates a roadside exhaust repair business in the vicinity of the Unit 9 intersection. He was attempting to cut open a large metal drum with a gas cutter when the drum exploded resulting in him being severely injured.

He was stabilised on the scene before being transported to the hospital by a private ambulance service.
