Mark Regal, a farmer from the farm Thelma in the Odensdaalsrus area, was fatally wounded on 11 November at approximately 19:40. One attacker was found dead on the scene, while police suspect another attacker fled by foot.
Rudi van Vuuren, safety coordinator of Free State Agriculture (FSA), confirmed that SAPS was quickly on the scene.
Free State Agriculture expresses its deepest sympathy with the Regal family. “This is unacceptable. The agricultural community, but also the whole country, is fed up with the crime attack on innocent people. ” said Francois Wilken, president of FSA.
The Hennenman farming community is still in shock after the recent murder of Pieter Hills. His son, Eddie, who was also seriously injured during the farm attack, passed away on November 11 due to his injuries.
FSA is organising a peaceful protest action in Hennenman in conjunction with Hennenman Farmers’ Association on Monday, November 16 during the bail application of Hills’ attackers. “FSA will want to see that criminals arrested for farm attacks and murders do not receive bail at all.” said Wilken.
