Armed robberies in Verulam CBD

The public is cautioned regarding the drastic increase in Armed Robberies in the Verulam Cbd.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) is attending to five (5) Robberies daily in the Cbd (since November 1st, 2020) perpetrated by two armed suspects operating on foot. At least four (4) common robberies are also reported to the RUSA Operations Center daily with suspects operating in gangs of 3/4 and armed with knives.

In most cases, mobile phones, cash & jewelry are taken by suspects. Victims that resist are usually stabbed.

Reaction Officers are seeking information leading to the arrest of these suspects. The armed suspects are in possession of a 9mm pistol and operate during daylight hours in the Cbd. One suspect is an African male, tall and very dark in complexion. He usually wears a white cap. No description of his accomplice is available. The modus operandi of the duo is to walk up to a victim, place a firearm to their head while the second suspect search for valuables. They then fled on foot towards the railway lines on Groom Street – Verulam.

Statistics fail to reflect the seriousness of these Robberies as most victims decline to open criminal cases.
