EAST LONDON – The days of rampant criminals hijacking courier vehicles around the BCMM District ended shortly as the East London K9 Unit members arrested four suspects for carjacking, possession of suspected stolen property, unlicensed firearms, and live ammunition at Cambridge today.
The courier vehicle was busy delivering parcels in Msimang street, Duncan Village at mid-day when the five armed suspects allegedly hijacked the courier vehicle, took the parcels, and fled in a white polo.
East London K9 members that were on patrol in the area spotted the white polo and a chase ensued. They caught up with the vehicle at Croydon Street, Cambridge, and arrested four suspects in possession of the goods taken from the courier company, two unlicensed firearms, and live ammunition. The white polo was confiscated and the fifth suspect is still at large.
The suspects aged 26, 27, 28, and 31 will appear in the East London Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of carjacking, possession of suspected stolen property, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and live ammunition.
Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga commended his members for their efforts, “Detectives are hard at work trying to see if we can link these suspects to other incidents that took place around the BCMM District,” she said.
