The Hawk’s Serious Organise Crime Investigation Port Elizabeth has arrested two suspects aged 42 and 44 during the early hours of Saturday, 12 December 2020, on allegations of stolen Vodacom cellphone tower batteries.
It is alleged that the two suspects from Western Cape were arrested in a “Buy and Bust” operation in Patensie Eastern Cape.
A total of six brand new Vodacom cellphone tower batteries, still in their boxes, were also recovered during the arrest. It is suspected that these batteries were stolen directly either from Vodacom warehouse or the battery supplier. The value of the batteries is estimated at R 240 000.00.
The two suspects are expected to make their first appearance in Hankey Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 14 December 2020.
