Four people lost their lives in a head-on crash on the D3715 road near Madombidzha outside Louis Trichardt on Sunday morning.
The incident involved a van and sedan and according to Mike Maringa, Media Liaison Officer for the Department of Transport, speeding as been cited as the possible cause of the incident. He added that both drivers were certified dead on the scene.
“Three passengers were seriously injured and were transported to a local hospital where two succumbed to their injuries upon their arrival.”
Meanwhile, the number of people who died in yesterday’s taxi crash on the R521 yesterday has risen to eight. “Two of the eight people who were rushed to Helene Franz Hospital succumbed to their injuries.”
This brings to eighteen the number of people killed on Limpopo roads in the past 48 hours.
“Speeding is the common possible cause in all the reported accidents,” Maringa said.
In an earlier statement, Transport and Community Safety MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya expressed her concern about the increase in the number of fatalities on the province’s roads since the beginning of this month.
She once again called on motorists to reduce speed and look out for pedestrians.
