A 53-year-old man is currently being transported to the hospital after he has shot twice during a business robbery on Vincent Dickinson Road in Ndwedwe.
The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Verulam Operations Center received a call from a member of the public requesting assistance for the injured man. Reaction Officers and Medics were dispatched to the hardware store where the robbery had occurred.
On arrival, the victim was in the process of being loaded into the back of a Chevrolet Orlando SUV. He was bleeding excessively from two gunshot wounds to his right thigh. Medics worked rapidly to control the bleeding before transporting him to the hospital by ambulance.
It was established that the injured man was the owner of the building where the hardware store was situated. He was visiting his tenant when four robbers entered the store. The suspects were all armed with firearms.
They robbed the owner of the business of his cellphone, an undisclosed amount of cash, and airtime dispensing machine. During the robbery, the 53-year-old attempted to either grab one of the suspects or reason with them when two shots were discharged. The gunmen then fled the scene on foot.
Reaction Officers conducted an extensive search for the suspects however they still remain at large.
