A 22-year man was arrested after he and an accomplice robbed a pedestrian of his cellphone in Verulam, KZN today (Friday).
The victim was walking on Todd Street when one person grabbed him from the rear. A second suspect stole his Samsung Grand Prime Plus cellphone before the two fled on foot. Onlookers apprehended one of the suspects as he attempted to make a getaway. The public began assaulting the man.
A passerby contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at approximately 09:03 and reported the incident. On arrival of Reaction Officers the suspect managed to break free and fled towards Brindhaven. Reaction Officers conducted an extensive search and located the thief hiding in overgrown grass on the corner of Rosemary Drive and Dianthus Road. He was immediately placed under arrest. The suspect confirmed that he was an accomplice to the theft but added that cellphone was not in his possession.
An extensive search was conducted for the outstanding suspect however he still remains at large.
