Suspect, Xolani Zondani, aged 39 appeared at Grahamstown Magistrate’s court today after he was arrested in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition on Saturday 05 February 2021.
The arrest followed after two members who were on patrol at D Street near a local tavern noticed one male walking after the curfew times. Members approached and searched him and they found in his possession a firearm with three magazines (23 rounds) and (16 Rifle rounds).
The suspect was immediately arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition as well as Contravention of the Disaster Management Act as he was outside during curfew time.
He appeared at Grahamstown Magistrate’s court today and the next court appearance will be on 15 February 2021. Suspect is remanded for bail hearing.
