Three male suspects aged between 27 and 40 years have been arrested for attempted business robbery in Qumbu on Monday, 08 February 2021. This is after Provincial Crime Intelligence in conjunction with Qumbu Tactical Response Team responded to information about a possible business robbery in the Maclear area.
On arrival police found two suspects in possession of an illegal firearm, a 9mm parabellum with one magazine and 16 cartridges. Both were charged for possession of a prohibited firearm.
The two suspects informed the police about a third suspect who had an outstanding warrant on a case of stock theft. He was arrested and charged for stock theft as well as cruelty to animals. He is alleged to have shot at dogs during his stock stealing ordeal.
The suspects will appear in Qumbu Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 10 February 2021.
The firearm will be taken for a ballistic test to ascertain their earlier use in the commission of a crime. Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga applauded the members for the breakthrough.
