The premier event for the hobby, craft and art supply sectors in South Africa, Hobby-X was scheduled to take place in April 2021 under the new owners – Messe Frankfurt South Africa, a subsidiary of one of the world’s leading trade fair organisers.
Due to the extended lockdown and the uncertainty regarding Covid-19, and after careful consideration, the Hobby-X team has taken the decision to postpone this year’s event. The show will now take place from 4 – 7 November 2021 at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and International Convention Centre and will, for the first time, introduce a Festive Edition.
“It is important for us as the trade fair organizer to make the appropriate decision for the safety of our exhibitors, and visitors. The hobby and craft industry has grown rapidly during the pandemic as many people have taken up new hobbies which, in some cases, have evolved into emerging business ventures. There is a definite need for this event and we will continue to support the industry by providing a proven platform that serves both exhibitors and visitors alike. There is much excitement about the Festive Edition of the show and we look forward to engaging with everyone in person”, says Annelie Reynolds, Show Director of Hobby-X.
Hobby-X was initially launched in 1998 and has grown significantly over the years, providing a wide spectrum of materials, equipment, supplies and ideas that are showcased to both trade buyers and the general public, encouraging South Africans to take up a creative craft or hobby.
“Since our initial participation, we have enjoyed great success showcasing and demonstrating our range of equipment. Hobby-X brings that extra exceptional intuitiveness, the show thus creating an interactive and entertaining experience for both exhibitors and visitors,” says Hobby-X exhibitor, Brandon Trivett from Adendorff Machinery Mart.
This year, Hobby-X celebrates 24 years of the wider world of hobbies and will feature all things festive; creative gifts, crafty kits, children’s fun stuff, cake decorating, 3D and lasers, and so much more. Visitors have the opportunity to choose from the variety of products on show and find unique and creative ways to gift their appreciation to family and friends.
“We operate in a very niche market and Hobby-X always helps us gain traction every year, by exposing us to thousands of new clients in the correct living standard measures (LSMs) and who are in general interested in buying at the event. We also always experience quite a bit of sales spillage in the days and weeks after Hobby-X. We wouldn’t miss it for the world,” says Bishop Boshielo, Marketing Manager of 3D Printing Store.
Attracting thousands of visitors each year, people from all over South Africa visit Hobby-X to source materials, supplies, equipment, ideas and techniques. – “Hobby-X has always been the most successful trade show for us. We’ve gained many new wholesale clients not only from SA but also from neighbouring countries such as Namibia, Mozambique, Botswana and Swaziland, who are now regular buyers of our brands”, says Jan Balt of Crazy Crafts.
Be sure to save the date and join us at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and International Convention Centre from 4-7 November 2021.
