Eastern Cape SAPS back to school roadshow kick-starts in Chris Hani district

The South African Police Service in the Eastern Cape has initiated their Back-to-School roadshow that aims at ensuring School Safety across the Province. The collective initiative kick-started in Chris Hani District, where different schools were visited.

The team from Corporate Communication and Liaison, Visible Policing, Junior Management Core, and Community Policing Forum had engagements with different learners on Thursday, 4th March 2021 at Bulelani Senior Secondary School situated at Ezibeleni Township in Komani and Joe Slovo Freedom High School in Molteno respectively, with an objective of ensuring crime-free environments, in and out of schools.

Domestic Violence and School Safety were the main agenda points for the day. The response received from learners was overwhelming.

The primary goals of the Back-to-school roadshow include ensuring safety and the wellbeing of children and also creating a positive learning environment. It is evident that schooling is an important and critical agency in reducing crime in society, through gaining knowledge and education.

The initiative also aimed at motivating vulnerable children to become more active in the fight against crime, protect themselves in their everyday lives, and most importantly contribute to building a culture of safety in schools and their communities.

Members of the Community Policing Forum utilised this platform to explain the critical role that can be played by learners and the youth in fighting crime in different communities.

The School Governing Bodies pledged their support in the sustainability of the program.

The month-long programme will further focus on the Safer Schools Strategy on schools that are linked to the SAPS and create awareness on Community Policing Forum Youth Desk programmes that will require youth participation in the fight against crime.
