Three suspects are due to appear in court following their arrest at a garage this morning in Browns Farm.
Members followed up on information of a shooting that occurred in Sonwabile Drive in Crossroads. While following up the information members spotted a white VW Polo and when they stopped it, a driver came out of the vehicle bleeding and he informed them that he was assaulted by three men who were driving a white Toyota Corolla. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
The members then searched for the vehicle and spotted it in Eisleben Road and followed it until a garage in Govan Mbeki Road, Browns Farm. In the vehicle were three occupants who were all armed. Two with licensed firearms and the third one’s had expired.
The trio were arrested and are detained for discharging a firearm in a residential area, the 33-year-old for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
These firearms will be sent for ballistics to test if it was used in the commission of crime.
The three suspects aged 33, 38 and 41 are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court once charged.
