The SAPS Safer Schools Team in the Northern Cape is headed by Colonel Mashay Gamieldien attached to Provincial SAPS Corporate Communications who encouraged the scholars to stay safe while also relaying some pro-active crime prevention hints during the Safer Schools programme in Postmasburg. The Family and Marriage Counseling Association South Africa (FAMSA) highlighted the different types of bullying and how to protect yourself against this social ill.
The focus area still remained rural districts, hence Refentse Primary School in Groenwater, outside Postmasburg, was visited. The FCS unit relayed safety hints to the scholars about sexual abuse and how to break the silence on violence.
The Provincial SAPS Search and Rescue Team touched on water safety. They warned scholars to abide to the safety tips and to stay away from canals, water holes and dams in the veld, especially as the province has been receiving torrential rains.
The programme was concluded with Tsantsabane Alcohol and Drug Services (TADS) recovered drug addict who spoke to the kids about his victory over drugs and the dangers thereof. He reiterated that they should continue to say NO to drugs.
The kids were spoiled with some gift bags containing lunch boxes, rulers, pencil cases and SAPS carrier bags containing our emergency 10 111 numbers.
