The effective utilisation of SAPS canines in crime-fighting efforts is paying dividends as mandrax tablets, an imitation firearm and ammunition were seized in Caledon and Hermanus yesterday, 23 March 2021.
Reports indicate that the Overberg Anti-Gang Unit members were executing a search warrant at an address when they sought the assistance of a narcotics dog, in searching a car in Sterling Street in Caledon on Tuesday. Zara, the narcotics dog reacted positively and as a consequence 500 mandrax tablets were discovered in a vehicle on the premises. A 27-year-old suspect who is the owner of the vehicle was arrested on charges of dealing in drugs.
Meanwhile an explosives dog belonging to the Overberg K-9 unit assisted the Overberg Anti-Gang Unit in the discovery of an imitation firearm and several rounds of ammunition in Zwelihle, Hermanus also on Tuesday. A 42-year-old suspect was henceforth arrested.
Both suspects will appear in court in Caledon soon.
