Smash and grab robber shoots vehicle window in Tongaat

Three occupants of a white Ford Ranger with an NT registration are being sought after they fled with an undisclosed amount of cash stolen from a Kia Picanto on Arbee Drive in Tongaat.

The Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) Tongaat Operations Centre received multiple calls from businesses in the area reporting a robbery in progress. All available Reaction Officers were dispatched to the parking lot of business premises where a shot was fired.

On arrival, it was established that a female had proceeded to a bank in the Tongaat CBD. When she found that it was busy she decided to proceed to Arbee Drive to purchase spices. According to witnesses, as the driver entered the store three men in a white Ford Ranger were seen stopping on the side of the road.

One person dressed in blue overalls proceeded towards the Kia Picanto. He picked up a brick and attempted to break the passenger window. After failing to do so he fired a single shot from a pistol which shattered the window. The suspect stole a red Puma bag containing cash before fleeing the scene. A 9mm spent cartridge was recovered.

Reaction Officers conducted an extensive search for the robbers however no arrests were made.
