Our efforts to ensure the safety of the community have landed five suspects behind bars for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition, and drugs. Last night members of Delft police reacted to information and searched a house in Mango Street which led to the discovery of a 357 Magnum revolver, four rounds of ammunition, and ten mandrax tablets. The five suspects aged between 22 and 38 are expected to make their court appearance today in Bellville.
In an unrelated police intervention, members of the National Intervention Unit followed up on the whereabouts of a hijacked vehicle that was spotted in Wynberg yesterday. After monitoring the parked vehicle, two suspects both aged 22, were arrested when they attempted to drive away with the vehicle which was hijacked earlier this month in Bishop Lavis. The possibility that the two suspects were involved in house robberies in Mowbray and Claremont is also being investigated. Once charged, they are expected to make their court appearance in Wynberg for the possession of the stolen vehicle.
Meanwhile, a 51-year-old suspect was arrested by members of the Anti-Gang Unit on a charge of attempted murder following an incident in Albetros Street Worcester on Friday, 09 April 2021, where the suspects opened fire at victims in the road. A video clip of the incident was shared on social media platforms, which assisted us with our investigation. He too is scheduled for a court appearance once he has been charged.
