Suspect arrested for fraud of almost a million rands

A 45-year-old man, Sipho Solomon Mahlangu appeared in the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Tuesday for charges of fraud and theft involving fraudulent invoices worth approximately R940 000-00.

It is alleged that from 2015 to 2016 Chukululu Investments appointed Mahlangu as a Project Manager to oversee local schools renovations and construction projects for local schools in Soweto as part of social responsibility.

Further investigation revealed that Mahlangu allegedly altered payment invoices and removed the school names and put that of a church, God’s Evangelic Ministries in Dube, Soweto where the renovations and construction services were rendered.

Chukululu Investments allegedly processed approximately R940 000-00 to different suppliers for all renovations and construction services rendered at the church instead of the local schools as intended.

The Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation in Johannesburg executed a warrant of arrest on Tuesday. Mahlangu was charged and appeared in court on the same day. He was granted a R7000-00 bail and the case is postponed to 19 May for further investigation.
