Relentless efforts by dedicated detectives ensured the speedy arrests of two suspects allegedly involved in the murder of Shauen Camoetie (21).
According to police information, on Friday, 16 April 2021, Camoetie and a friend were walking in Tuna Drive, Tiryville when they were approached by a small group of people. It is further alleged that two males from the group pulled out knives and stabbed Camoetie several times. The suspects fled the scene after the stabbing. Camoetie was rushed to a local hospital and passed away during the early hours of Saturday morning, 17 April 2021.
The 72 hour activation plan was immediately implemented and a task team was established to hunt down the suspects. The first suspect, Benito Haarhof (18) was arrested on Sunday, 18 April 2021 at his residence in Lapland. Haarhof appeared in the Uitenhage Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 19 April 2021 on a charge of murder and the case is remanded in custody until Friday, 23 April 2021.
The second suspect, Rodin Boneparte (22) was arrested on Tuesday, 20 April 2021, also in Lapland and appeared this morning, Wednesday, 21 April 2021 on a charge of murder. Boneparte also appeared on two other unrelated Kamesh cases, namely arson and pointing of a firearm. All three cases will be heard on Friday, 23 April 2021 at his bail application.
The Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Thandiswa Kupiso condemned the senseless murder and commented that “the South African Police Service will not tolerate these senseless attacks and we commend the speedy arrests by the task team”.
