The vigilance of members attached to the Maitland Flying Squad led to the arrest of five suspects in two separate incidents.
On Sunday, 09 May 2021, the members were conducting crime prevention patrols in Athlone when they saw a female coming out of a suspicious house, the suspect was stopped and upon searching her 70 madrax tablet were found in her possession. The suspect, aged 44, was arrested and she is facing a charge of possession of drugs.
In an unrelated incident, the same members were patrolling the farm area in Philippi this morning at about 02:10 when they heard over the SAPS radio about a Toyota Corolla that had been stolen in Hout Bay. The members observed two vehicles driving close to each other and on closer look, they established that a VW Golf was towing a white Toyota Corolla.
The driver of the Golf sped off when he saw the police vehicle. The driver of the Toyota jumped out of the vehicle and fled. The driver of the Golf lost control of the vehicle and collided with a vibracrete slabs. It was established that the Toyota Corolla was the vehicle that was reported stolen in Hout Bay. Four suspects inside the vehicle were arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle.
All five suspects are due to appear in court once charged.
