A 49 year old man was shot and killed while parking his vehicle at his home on Nkhululeku Road in Phase 6, Waterloo this afternoon (Tuesday).
A resident from the area contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at 18:24 requesting urgent medical assistance for a man who had been shot in his vehicle. Reaction Officers and RUSA Medics were dispatched to the scene and on arrival found the driver of a silver Toyota Corolla unresponsive in his vehicle. Upon examination he showed no signs of life and was declared deceased. He was shot three times in his right arm and once in the chest.
According to witnesses, the victim was parking his vehicle at his residence when a lone gunman walked up to him and fired at least six shots. The
suspect then fled on foot. Six spent 9mm cartridges were recovered.
The motive for the shooting is believed to be related to taxi violence however this has not been confirmed.
