Man locked in a wardrobe during a robbery in Trenance Park

A man was locked in a wardrobe during a robbery at a residence on Fig Place in Trenance Park, Verulam.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) were dispatched to the home after receiving reports of a robbery in progress. On arrival, Reaction Officers were informed that the suspects had fled prior to the arrival of First Responders.

A 57-year-old woman explained that two men entered her yard and held her up. One suspect produced a firearm while his accomplice grabbed her by the throat. A second victim who was sweeping the yard and a visitor were also assaulted. The three were forced into the house where the visitor was locked in a wardrobe. Two children aged 5 & 6 hid in one of the bedrooms when they noticed the gunmen entering their home.

The robbers then demanded the keys to a red Audi S3 that was parked in the yard. The female informed them that the keys were with her son who was not at home. They asked her to call her son from her cellphone and inform him to bring the keys. When she failed to get hold of him they stole her Mobicel cellphone and fled on foot. The suspects were in possession of a key that was used to unlock the driveway gate.

No serious injuries were reported.
