In the early hours of today at 01:00, a multi-disciplinary operation comprising of police officers from various units as well as local police at Amangwe was carried out at Slimangamehlo and Tatane area in Amangwe policing precinct.
The team was following up on information regarding the suspects in possession of illegal firearms. The team proceeded to the Tatane area where a search was conducted. A 36-year-old suspect was found in possession of a pistol with ten rounds of ammunition. He was placed under arrest for possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.
The team proceeded to Slimangamehlo where a search was conducted in one of the identified homesteads. A 37-year-old suspect was placed under arrest after he was found in possession of a rifle with live ammunition of a pistol. He was also placed under arrest.
In another operation that was conducted yesterday afternoon, a 38-year-old suspect was arrested after he was found in possession of a revolver with six rounds of ammunition. The suspect was arrested while boarding a taxi at Estcourt taxi rank. He was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. All three suspects are appearing before the Estcourt Magistrates’ Court today.
