Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) are currently standing off on Starling Place in Mountview – Verulam after receiving calls of a bomb planted in a vehicle.
Paramedics and Reaction Officers arrived on the scene and interviewed a 14-year-old girl who found a note on her doorstep this morning. The note was written in blue ink warned that a device was planted in a vehicle belonging to a 30-year-old male resident at the premises that would detonate within an hour. A clear substance believed to be an accelerant was also found at the doorstep with several burnt-out match sticks.
Reaction Officers were further informed that an unknown male had approached the home earlier yesterday and asked for the male resident by name. When the 14 years old female refused to open the door, the suspect cocked a firearm and threatened to use the weapon. Hours later another note was found on the doorstep threatening the occupants.
Reaction Officers have evacuated the area in close proximity of the vehicles used by the victim’s family and are awaiting the Bomb Disposal Unit.
