Son Sought For Mums Murder: Everest Heights – KZN

The body of 62-year-old Ormilla Samdath was discovered in her kitchen at her home on Olivine Road in Everest Heights – KZN this afternoon (Thursday 01/07/2021).

A male contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at 15:48 requesting a well-being check at a residence after he failed to make telephonic contact with his sister. Reaction Officers proceeded to the residence on arrival interviewed tenants who stated they had last seen the elderly female yesterday morning.

It was confirmed that her son, 38 year old Shalendra Samdath (picture 2) left the residence yesterday (Wednesday) at approximately 16:20 after a dispute with his mother. He sped off in her red Toyota Corolla with registration NJ 31823.

Reaction Officers proceeded to the rear of the house and noticed blood at the kitchen door. Officers looked through the window and noticed the woman lying on the floor when. Officers forced open the upper panel of a stable door to allow Medics access to the victim.

Upon examination, Samdath was found to have sustained at least six stab wounds to her body and blunt force trauma to her head & face. She showed no signs of life and was pronounced deceased.

A family member at the scene received a call from an unknown male stating that the deceased’s handbag containing her documents was recovered in Mayville, Durban. The call was made from her son’s phone and his voice could be heard in the background.

Shalendra Samdath has a history of drug addiction. On Sunday he forced his mother to hand over R3000 in cash which was collected from a tenant. He left the residence and allegedly consumed drugs throughout the night.

The next morning he arrived at his mother’s place of employment where he demanded more money. She forced him into her vehicle and drove him back home to avoid embarrassment at her offices. According to his relatives, on several occasions threatened to murder his mother and late father who owned Videoland in Verulam. Shalendra is considered armed and dangerous.
