Lockdown II is making headway in dealing with crime

Lockdown II, an initiative to combat lawlessness in crime affected areas is making headway as indicated by the past week’s performance.

Intelligence driven operations conducted in Jikela Street in Site B, Khayelitsha resulted in the arrest of two suspects aged 19 and 20 who were caught in possession of two prohibited 9mm pistols and 62 rounds of ammunition.

In an unrelated incident in Nyanga the members pursued a suspect who dropped his firearm and managed to evade arrest. The firearm was confiscated while the suspect is still being sought.

In Kraaifontein Lockdown II members reacted on information and searched the residence in Wallacedene and confiscated 60kg of suspected stolen copper cable, scales and grinders. The 41-year-old suspect who owns a scrapyard was arrested for the possession of non-ferrous metal.

The suspects already made their court appearances in Khayelitsha, Athlone and Blue Downs.
