Proactive investigations by SAPS Motherwell detectives led to the successful arrest of at least one male suspect (21) and the confiscation of various items suspected to be linked to various house robberies perpetrated over the past two months in the Motherwell station area.
Detectives from SAPS Motherwell Serious Violent Crime Group and the Motherwell Task Team teamed up on Tuesday morning, 27 July 2021, and followed up on valuable information on house robberies at a residence in Mlele Street, NU6, Motherwell.
Members obtained a search warrant and during their search, a 9mm Norinco pistol was found lying inside a cement brick. Members also confiscated three plasma television sets, cash, fifteen cellphones, and clothing, allegedly used in the commission of the house robbery cases. A bulletproof vest was also confiscated. The 21-year-old suspect was positively linked to a house robbery case that occurred during July 2021 and he is due to appear in the Motherwell Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 29 July 2021. Further arrests are imminent as detectives are continuing to follow up on more leads. The firearm will be sent for ballistic testing and to determine its origin.
