9 August is Women’s Day, when we remember and celebrate the bravery of the women of 1956, who staged a march on the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against the proposed amendments to the Urban Areas Act. Their strength still motivates many women in South Africa today and their legacy will live on forever.
As part of Women in LPG (WINLPG), the South African WINLPG chapter and LPGSA will be hosting a month-long celebration packed with activities. The aim of these activities is to showcase and celebrate the women in our industry. In addition, the association will host a range of activities aimed at encouraging women to participate in the industry as users of LP Gas and appliances or businesspeople.
On 31 August, LPGSA will host Women in LPG webinar featuring female leaders in the industry. During the webinar the women will share their experiences and some advice on how to succeed in the LP Gas industry. In addition, women in the LP Gas industry will be featured in short videos on our social media platforms where they will share their experiences, successes and provide some advice on how to overcome the many challenges women face in our industry. Details on how to register for the webinar will follow very soon.
As part of promoting the use of LP Gas and LP Gas appliances we will also focus on promoting the benefits of cooking with LP Gas and water heating on our social media platforms.
Dr. James Emmanuel Kwegyir-Aggrey once said, “if you educate a woman, you educate a nation.” It is in this spirit that LPGSA and partners has put forward five Domestic LPG Installation course bursaries (including theory and practical) and SAQCC registration for young women under the age of 35. The initiative is aimed at encouraging young women to consider LP Gas installation as a career and set up small businesses in their communities. We thank those who offered to mentor these young women and assist them to complete their portfolios of evidence and achieve their qualification. Information on how to enter this bursary competition can be found on the LPGSA website and social media platforms.
We thank all the sponsors who came forward and generously donated prizes for our Women’s Month campaigns. Visit the LPGSA website on www.lpgas.co.za and our Facebook and Twitter platforms for more information on how you can participate in all our Women’s Month activities.
