Police seize firearms and ammunition during a raid at Plettenberg bay

An intelligence-driven operation, comprising of various units of the police yielded positive results when the police seized various firearms, the assortment of ammunition as well as drugs during a raid at a house in Kwanokuthula, Plettenberg Bay on 11 August 2021.

Intelligence on illegal firearms and drugs was operationalized when members attached to the Public Order Police, George Crime Intelligence, and Eden Cluster Crime Combatting Team pounced on the house in Nkqubela Street at about 18:40. They ensued with a search of the premises where the members seized four handguns, 122 rounds of ammunition (various makes), cell phones, a flat-screen television set, computer screen, housebreaking implements, and 22 grams of Tik with an estimated street value of R20 000-00. The police also seized police uniform pieces which were found inside the main bedroom of the house.

Six men aged between 32 and 50 were arrested. They are facing charges of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of drugs, possession of housebreaking implements, and possession of suspected stolen goods. The suspects are expected to appear in court later this week on mentioned charges.

The firearms will be sent for ballistic tests at a forensic laboratory of the police.

Furthermore, none of the suspects are police members hence the origin of the uniform pieces forms part of the overall police probe.

Western Cape Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile, lauded the members for their vigilance to remove illicit firearms and ammunition, which threaten the safety of communities, from the streets.
