An 11-month-old male Rottweiler was critically injured after he was run over by a train in Flamingo Heights in Tongaat, KZN this afternoon (Saturday).
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call from a passerby who noticed the dog lying next to the railway tracks. Its front legs had been amputated. Reaction Officers were dispatched to the scene and on arrival found the dog bleeding excessively from its wounds. Medics bandaged the wounds and controlled the bleeding.
The owners of the dog arrived a short while later and informed Reaction Officers that both their Rottweilers went missing from their property during the early hours of this morning. One of the dogs later returned home. While searching for the missing dog they received information that he had been run over by a train.
The seriously injured dog was transported privately to a veterinarian.
