Investigators attached to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) deployed to bring perpetrators of gender-based violence to book were out in full force when they arrested two suspects for sexual offences over the past weekend.
This morning (2021-08-15) Murraysburg police arrested a 24-year-old man on a charge of rape as well as assault with the intent to commit grievous bodily harm. It is alleged that the 35-year-old victim was at her residence at Murraysburg when the suspect, her ex-boyfriend, arrived. He forced himself into the house where he violated the woman. Police responded to the incident and later arrested the suspect.
The matter is being investigated by the Beaufort West FCS unit.
Meanwhile, George FCS unit arrested a 24-year-old suspect in connection with an alleged incident at Blanco, George on 13 August 2021. Investigation reveals that the victim was awoken by a man who was next to her bed. The man threatened the 30-year-old woman and proceeded to violate her. Detectives arrested the suspect on Saturday, 14 August 2021 on a charge of rape.
Both suspects remains in custody. They are expected to appear in the respective courts on Monday, 16 August 2021.
The protection of the rights of women and children is high on the policing priorities for the Western Cape. These arrests should send a strong message to abusers that they would face the full might of the law once arrested.
