It is alleged that on 20 August 2021 at 12:30, Nkanyiso Zondi (24) was fatally shot by unknown suspects while at his homestead in Mgwagwa area just outside Pietermaritzburg. He sustained a gunshot wound on the left side of his chest. A case of murder was opened for investigation at Taylors Halt SAPS.
Yesterday a multi-disciplinary operation was put in place after an intensive investigation was conducted regarding the suspects involved. The team proceeded to Mgwagwa area where a search was conducted at a homestead. Upon searching the house, police found a shotgun, rifle, pistol, revolver and an air rifle.
Police also seized 212 rounds of ammunition. Two suspects aged 19 and 32 were placed under arrest for being in illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. The suspects were positively linked to the murder. They are appearing before the Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court today.
