Ladismith SAPS clamps down on illegal drug trade

Concerted efforts by the Ladismith SAPS Visible Policing members to eradicate and address the distribution of illegal drugs in the rural Kannaland-town yielded positive results once again when their vigilance led to the arrest of a 30-year-old suspect who was found in possession of dagga and Mandrax yesterday, Monday 30 August 2021.

Investigation reveals that the members who were busy performing crime prevention patrols in the area spotted the suspicious man near the Goewerments Dam. Upon searching his purple-colored carry bag, members found 1.23kg of dagga concealed in a black plastic bag inside the carry bag. A further search of the person resulted in the find of 100 Mandrax tablets that was concealed in the front of his pants. Indications are that the suspect was on his way to Varkieskloof, an informal settlement where he stays, and furthermore that the consignment drugs were destined for local distribution into these vulnerable poverty-stricken communities.

He was arrested on the spot and the dagga and Mandrax tablets to the estimated value of just more than R10 000.00 were confiscated and handed in as evidence.

The suspect is expected to make his first court appearance in the Ladismith Magistrates’ Court today. He faces a charge of illegal possession of drugs, dagga, and Mandrax tablets.

Police Provincial Management has praised the members involved for their continued efforts to eradicate the prevalence of drugs in their communities.
