Suspect arrested for possession of scrap metal

On Tuesday 07 September 2021 at about 23:00 information was received of a 36-year-old Aberdeen scrap metal dealer loading two bakkies with scrap metal.

On Wednesday, 08 September at about 00.05 the suspected vehicle was stopped and searched in Graaff Reinet by Graaff Reinet Vispol and Aberdeen Vispol members. The owner was arrested after he could not give account for the copper, brass, aluminum. Twelve bags of burnt copper, brass, aluminum pipes, wire, cable were seized with a weight of 336,2 kg.

The scrap metal dealer was arrested for possession of suspected stolen goods.

The suspect is due to appear before the Graaff-Reinet court soon.

Aberdeen Station Commander, Captain B Smit thanked Aberdeen Community for the assistance, without their information the successful arrest and recovery of stolen goods would not have been possible.
