Western Cape police management welcomed the hefty sentence imposed on a house robber after he was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment at the Regional Court’ in George on Friday, 10 September 2021.
An intensive investigation into a house robbery perpetrated at Station Street, George on 19 April 2021 at about 09:15 revealed that the 19-year-old victim was in bed when she was awaken by a strange noise. She glanced through her window and when she turned around saw the intruder, armed with a knife, in her bedroom. He threatened her and took off with a phone, laptop, jacket as well as other valuables.
Evidence obtained during the cause of the investigation took police to Whittlesea near Queenstown in the Eastern Cape where the suspect was arrested on the house robbery charge. Lengthy court proceedings concluded with his conviction and subsequent sentencing today.
The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile, lauded the detection and prosecution teams for a thorough investigation which led to the lengthy incarceration of the robber. His conviction and subsequent sentencing should serve as a deterrent to other robbers. All efforts would be made to ensure that perpetrators of violence against women and children are brought to book.
