Police members in the Western Cape are committed to rid the streets of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and were successful on Thursday, 16 September 2021.
The Provincial Integrated Task Team performed stop and search operations near to Ntlazane road in Harare when they spotted an unknown man outside a stationary vehicle. Following their instinct, they arrested a 34-year-old man when he was found in possession of a 9mm pistol with ammunition.
Meanwhile, Caledon police members stopped a vehicle on the N2 Highway. When the occupants were instructed to get out of the vehicle, they resisted and the passengers fled the scene. When the members searched the vehicle they confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition and arrested the driver, a 34-year-old man.
In an unrelated matter, Steenberg police were busy with routine patrols when they searched an unknown man near Grindal Avenue in Lavenhill and found a .38 special revolver tucked to his waist and arrested the 19-year-old man.
Once charged the suspects are expected to make a court appearance in the Khayelitsha, Caledon, and Wynberg Magistrate courts respectively on charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
