A 13-year-old male is in critical condition after he was shot on Fernham Drive in Phoenix.
A member of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was on patrol in the area at approximately 09:31 when he noticed the teenager bleeding excessively from an injury to his right thigh. The Reaction Officer requested immediate assistance from RUSA Medics who arrived on the scene shortly thereafter.
The twelve-year-old male who was assisting the injured teen informed Reaction Officers that they were both grade 8 pupils at a school in Ntuzuma, KZN. He went on to explain that his friend had robbed a scholar of her cellphone on Ferham Drive and was fleeing the scene when four men in a white VW Polo fired multiple shots at him. One bullet penetrated his thigh causing him to collapse.
The occupants of the VW Polo retrieved the cellphone and left him dead on the pavement. The 12-year-old was assisting his friend to walk to a medical facility when the Reaction Officer intervened. The boy was stabilised on scene by Medics before being transported to hospital in a critical condition.
Reaction Officers conducted an extensive search for the white VW Polo however no arrests were made.
