SAPS Germiston arrested six suspects, aged between 30 and 65, on Tuesday, 21 September 2021 for possession of the suspected stolen property and defeating the ends of justice.
The SAPS members were out on a routine crime prevention patrol when they detected a suspicious truck and immediately conducted a stop-and-search. The search resulted in the SAPS members recovering a large consignment of railway lines found inside of the truck.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had also sold a consignment of railway lines to a scrapyard dealer. The value of the railway lines (property of PRASA) found inside the truck and scrapyard is estimated at R1 Million.
Police arrested six suspects, they are expected to appear in court soon.
