Police in Gauteng leads a multi-disciplinary team during an operation and recovers copper cables worth approximately R30 000-00

Police in Gauteng arrested a suspect in Alexandra on Tuesday, 28 September 2021, for possession of stolen goods as well as for non-compliance with the Second-Hand Goods Act (Act 6 of 2009).

Police operationalised information and proceeded to the identified scrap yard located in Alexandra. The SAPS members were joined by various stakeholders during the operation which included representatives from Transnet, PRASA, Eskom, City Power, Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA), and Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.

Copper cables, worth approximately R30 000-00, were found on the premises of the scrap yard and were positively identified as the property of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality.

The owner of the scrapyard was subsequently arrested and is facing charges of possession of stolen goods and non-compliance to the Second-Hand Goods Act (Act 6 of 2009).
