Free State Province makes significant strides in vaccination rollout

The Free State Province is making serious strides in its vaccination rollout which saw it recording 40.93% of individuals vaccinated as a percentage of the targeted adult population to be vaccinated. This significant achievement places the Free State on second spot in the country and steaming ahead of some of the much more well resourced provinces.

The Free State MEC for Health, Montseng Tsiu has applauded the vaccination teams throughout the province for the phenomenal work that continues to be done, inspite of all the challenges such as fatigue from health workers who have worked with little rest since the advent of the global pandemic.

The vaccination program in the province is encouraged by the positive response to vaccination by the 18 – 34 years age category of vaccination, although we still expect much more from these carriers of the positive aspirations of the nation. Vaccination is an imperative in our province as it would lessen imminent vulnerabilities that are prevalent in higher age groups of 50 – 59 years and 60+ years due to Covid19 related infections, hospitalization and possible death.

In the light of this stark reality, Tsiu has encouraged the community of the Free State to be more responsive towards vaccination because it has been proven beyond reasonable doubt that vaccines save lives whilst unvaccinated people become more at risk.

The Free State vaccination teams continue to vaccinate people as part of efforts to curb the negative effects of an inevitable 4th Wave. Tsiu has also reminded the people to take care of themselves and adhere to proven Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions as they gather and interact in the build ups of social and political activities ahead of the Local Government Elections 2021 on 1 November 2021.
