A recovery operation executed by members of The De Aar Stock theft and Endangered Species unit and the Kimberley Mounted unit resulted in the recovery of stolen livestock worth thousands of rand.
On 24 November 2021, the team pounced on a 51-year-old man in Richmond and seized 107 Merino sheep that were allegedly stolen at a farm near Sutherland. The sheep were stolen between 30 April 2021 and 21 September 2021 and is worth about R235 000.
The police registered a stock theft docket and it will be presented before the Senior State Prosecutor for a decision.
The operation forms part of the Safer Festive Season Operations and the SAPS will continue to tighten the grip and squeeze the space for criminals to operate.
