MasterDrive concluded their philanthropic initiatives for the year with the handing out of beanies to children in Alexandra. The beanies have special reflective wool that will help drivers to see children in the road at night and in low visibility conditions.
Alexandra has cars and people almost everywhere that you look. The CEO of MasterDrive, Eugene Herbert, says: “Coupled with bad roads this makes for difficult driving situations and even more difficult situations for pedestrians, particularly children. Part of a commitment to road safety is ensuring vulnerable road users, whether it’s pedestrians in general or young pedestrians, can use the road safely and without incident. The beanies will help children use the roads safely by increasing their visibility to drivers.
“MasterDrive took the opportunity to work with Wheel Well on this project to ensure that young road users are safe. It was an innovative and proactive approach to looking after the safety of young pedestrians and we are proud to be part of the initiative.”
Research shows that pedestrians, in particular children, are injured or killed more often in accidents and collisions than any other group. “Part of being a responsible driver is ensuring every person that uses the roads can do so safely and without fear of incident. Part of this is ensuring you travel with your lights on. Thus, if it is within our power to help children safely do so, all individuals should seize the opportunity to do their part.
“With the help of community members, the beanies are still being knitted and there is time for other companies to still make their mark. If you would like to become part of this initiative, we encourage you to get in contact with Wheel Well, to get more direction on getting involved.”
As always, MasterDrive encourages all individuals and companies to do their bit to assist South Africans. “It wasa long and difficult year for many South Africans and businesses. If you have the means to help those affected and make the lives of fellow South Africans a bit brighter, do not hesitate to contact MasterDrive about our planned philanthropic efforts for 2022,” says Herbert.
