A suspect that attempted to murder a Reaction Officer was shot during a business break-in in Phoenix, KZN this morning (Sunday).
Acting on a tip-off, members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to a business break-in in progress at approximately 06:23. On arrival, the Reaction Officer noticed a suspect fleeing from the premises. The Officer pursued the suspect over the boundary wall.
During the pursuit, the RUSA Member tackled the suspect and a scuffle ensued. The suspect managed to break free when he removed a pistol from his waistband. He was shot once on his left thigh by a backup Reaction Officer. The suspect then dropped his firearm and attempted to flee but collapsed due to his injury. The serial number on his firearm was filed off.
The suspect is believed to be linked to several robberies and break-ins. The 29-year-old was transported to a local hospital where he is currently under Police guard.
The Reaction Officers were not injured.
